In Spring 2024, we’re running two discussion groups: X Risk Basics is an introduction to effective altruism & existential risk, the second is focused on AI Risk.

Impact Hour

One hour workshops with both graduate and undergraduate student groups on campus on the most pressing questions facing humanity and what you can do in your career to help solve them! Topics discussed are catered to the groups we’re talking with but common topics include:

  • Metric driven approaches to measuring doing good.

  • The history (& future) of the effective altruism movement

  • Societal risks and their relation to existential risk.

AI Risk Discussion Group

Group discussions and guest lectures with some of the world’s foremost experts on artificial intelligence research, ai risk, and both technical and governance based approaches to handling it.

The Precipice Reading Group

A weekly reading and discussion group focused on providing participants with an introduction to effective altruism & the current state of global catastrophic risk research. With a special focus on AI & BioRisk, we will be starting with reading Toby Ord’s book The Precipice!

ARETE Fellowship

Apply for our Fall 2024 Cohort of our flagship program. In this 6/8-week program, students will have the opportunity to discuss EA-related concepts in a 4-6 person discussion group, benefit from personalized career advising, and attend social events.

We highly encourage you to sign up for a coffee chat with one of our officers to learn more about effective altruism and how the Arete Fellowship can help you choose an impactful career. We’ll take note of your demonstrated interest when evaluating your application and cover the cost of your drink!
